Tip: Pre-cut paper into strips to make tearing easier for younger kids. As they build strength, let them tear larger pieces on their own.

S is for Sun Craft Idea: Use bright yellow or orange paper for the sun! Kids can tear pieces to fill in the sun shape. Add longer strips for sun rays around the edges. This craft works beautifully during summer themes, weather units, or when learning about the solar system and space.

S is for Snake Craft Idea: Use green, brown, or even rainbow-colored paper for the snake! Kids can tear small pieces to create scales or patterns along the snake’s body. This is a great opportunity to talk about patterns and textures. This is a perfect craft for reptile themes, zoo units, or jungle and rainforest studies.

S is for Socks Craft Idea: Let kids choose any colors they want for their socks! They can tear pieces to fill in both socks. Talk about matching pairs, patterns, and colors. You can even have them create mismatched socks for a silly twist! Perfect for clothing themes or when learning about pairs and matching.

Snipping and Pasting

Working on scissor skills with your kids? Cut paper into thin strips (about 1 inch wide). Kids make single snips to cut the strips into small pieces, then glue them onto the image. This is Step 2 of the Cutting Confidence Ladder—practicing that open-close scissor motion without worrying about cutting along a line. Perfect for kids just learning to use scissors.

Simple Coloring

Sometimes you need something super quick, and it doesn’t get any easier than using the printables as coloring pages. Your kids can color the letter or image with crayons or markers. It’s simple and still builds letter recognition.
