Quick Letter O Crafts for Preschool (Print & Use Today)
Planning your letter O activities and need some easy letter O crafts for preschool?
I think these alphabet paper-tearing crafts are exactly what you need. They keep your little learners engaged while building letter recognition, letter tracing, and fine motor skills.

Kids tear colorful paper into small pieces and glue them onto a letter O bubble letter or an image that starts with O.
This simple skill-rich craft is calming, strengthens little hands, and builds early literacy skills.
I’m going to share some ideas for using these letter O crafts for preschool in your classroom. You’ll see how flexible and easy these no-prep printables really are.
Why These Letter O Crafts Work So Well For Preschool
Paper-tearing activities are fantastic for little learners. When kids tear paper into pieces, they strengthen their hand muscles…the same muscles they’ll need for using scissors. Tearing paper is Step 1 of the Cutting Confidence Ladder—the foundation that prepares little hands for cutting.
When kids tear paper and glue it onto a letter O shape or an octopus, oven, or owl image, they:
- Build hand muscles
- Practice bilateral coordination
- Work on eye-hand coordination
- Learn letter recognition
- Connect letters to beginning sounds
- Here’s a bonus… paper tearing is incredibly calming. Your wiggliest kids will often settle right in when they’re tearing and gluing.
Many Letter O Craft Template Options
These letter O craft templates offer lots of options, so you can find exactly what works for you and your kids.
Bubble Letter Page
Looking to focus on letter recognition? The letter O bubble letter page is perfect. It includes both uppercase and lowercase letters on the same page.

Filling in the letter shapes with torn paper helps kids learn to recognize the shape of the letter O.
Letter O Images
Beyond the bubble letter page, the Letter O Craft set includes 3 image options so you can make an:
- O is for octopus craft
- O is for oven craft
- O is for owl craft
Using these images helps kids practice the letter o sound.
Multiple Options for Each Image
Each image comes with several template options, so you can give your kids tracing practice or extra fine motor work.
The simplest option shows just the picture and an “O is for…” sentence.

Do your kids need letter formation practice? There are also templates with letter tracing and even word tracing opportunities.
My favorite is the option with the hole punch border. Kids absolutely love using a hole punch, and it’s such an effective way to build hand strength.
Different Ways to Use the Letter O Craft Pages
Paper tearing is my favorite way to use these printables, but you can also use the pages in many different ways. Change things up to keep your kids interested.
Paper Tearing (My Favorite!)
Provide scraps of construction paper or tissue paper in different colors. Show them how to tear the paper into small pieces and glue them onto the letter O images or bubble letters.
Tip: Pre-cut paper into strips to make tearing easier for younger kids. As they build strength, let them tear larger pieces on their own.
O is for Octopus Craft Idea: Use purple, pink, or orange paper for the octopus body! Kids can tear pieces to fill in the octopus. Add googly eyes for extra fun. You can even tear long strips for the tentacles. This craft works beautifully during ocean themes or when learning about sea animals.
O is for Oven Craft Idea: Use gray or silver paper for the oven. Kids can tear pieces to fill in the oven shape. Add a window with clear contact paper or draw one with a marker. You can even add brown circles inside to look like cookies baking! Perfect for kitchen themes, community helpers (bakers, chefs), or when learning about cooking.
O is for Owl Craft Idea: Use brown, gray, or tan paper for the owl body. Kids can tear pieces to create a feathered texture. Add yellow or orange paper for eyes, and a small triangle for the beak. This craft is perfect for forest themes, nighttime animals, or fall units.
Snipping and Pasting
Do your kids need to work on scissor skills? Cut paper into thin strips (about 1 inch wide). Kids make single snips to cut the strips into small pieces, then glue them onto the image. This is Step 2 of the Cutting Confidence Ladder—practicing that open-close scissor motion without worrying about cutting along a line. Perfect for kids just learning to use scissors.
Simple Coloring
Sometimes you need something super quick, and it doesn’t get any easier than using the printables as coloring pages. Your kids can color the letter or image with crayons or markers. It’s simple and still builds letter recognition.

Painting
If you’re ready for a little mess, provide watercolors, tempera paint, or dot markers. Kids enjoy the sensory experience, and it strengthens their hands as they control the brush or dauber.
Texture Techniques: For the owl craft, try dabbing paint with a sponge to create a feathered texture. For the octopus, use different shades of the same color to create depth.
Mixed Media
Let kids get creative by combining methods. Tear paper for the main image, then add details with crayons. Or color first, then add torn paper accents. This creative freedom makes the activity feel more special. You can add real feathers to the owl, attach googly eyes to the owl or octopus, or glue on pom-poms for cookies in the oven.
Hole Punch Page Options
If you use the craft page that has a border with circles, kids can trace the lines and then punch holes around the edge. Hole punching builds the same muscles kids need for scissor control and writing.

You can also have kids use a Q-tip to dab paint on the border or add small dot stickers. It’s another way to keep the activity fresh and engaging.
