The Benefits of Preschool Name Crafts
A child’s name is one of the most important words to them. That’s why name crafts and activities are so exciting for little learners.
But creating name crafts is more than fun. They are a fantastic tool for helping preschoolers learn important literacy skills in a meaningful way. Here are some literacy skills that you can work on while creating:
- Learning name recognition
- Letter recognition – Learning the first letter and each individual letter in their names
- Understanding the correct order of letters in their names
- Some name crafts can even help with name writing
In addition to literacy skills, there are many benefits to making crafts. Here are just some benefits that kids will get from craft activities:
- Build fine motor skills
- Improve cutting skills
- Work on eye-hand coordination
- Develop pencil grasp and control
Cut and Paste Preschool Name Crafts
Now that you see all the benefits of name crafts, let’s take a look at a bunch of different craft ideas. Get out your scissors and glue sticks. Your kids are going to love these fun name activities.
Cut and Paste Name Crafts for Kids
My favorite preschool name crafts are these cut and paste activities because they include different ways to work on fine motor skills.

I have created name crafts for all seasons of the year, so you’ll have name crafts to support your spings, summer, fall, and winter themes.

The first step to getting these name activities ready for your kids is to customize the pieces with the letters of each child’s first name. Don’t worry; it’s easy, and there are step-by-step instructions in the PDF digital download.

They include 2 printing options. You can print all the parts on colored paper or construction paper (cut to fit in your printer), and your kids can cut out all the different shapes and paste them together. The second option is to print the activity on white paper as a cut-and-paste coloring page.

The coloring page option involves little prep and gives kids the opportunity to do some hole punching. If you haven’t tried hole punching activities with your kids, it’s a great way to build hand strength and eye-hand coordination….plus….. KIDS LOVE THE ACTIVITY!
Take a close look at the cute Chicka Chicka Boom Boom name craft. Do you see the dotted lines? These are tracing lines to give your kids practice holding a crayon, working on their grip, and controlling the movement of a writing instrument.

These are perfect craft activities for your school bulletin board. Little learners LOVE seeing their own names displayed on the wall.
You can find fun cut-and-paste name crafts for all seasons. The fall tree name craft is perfect for the Autumn season.

Here is a Christmas light name craft. We had fun making the background with green paint and an evergreen branch.

I created mittens and snowflake name crafts for the winter season.

A rainbow name craft is a perfect St. Patrick’s Day craft, or use it to celebrate spring or summer.

When you are learning about weather or that April showers bring May flowers, this umbrella name craft is perfect.

Wanna see this one in action? Here is an umbrella name craft video.
The final name craft in the set is a flower craft. Isn’t it adorable? You can use it for spring, summer, or a garden unit.

Who said that you have to customize the letters to spell a name? The flower set can double as a Mother’s Day craft activity. In fact, the printable includes a Mother’s Day label that you can use.

First Letter of My Name Craft
Your kids can learn to recognize the first letter of their name and work building hand strength with this paper-tearing activity. They can paste down the torn paper to fill the beginning letter of their name and can hole punch or add more torn paper around the border to make this fun craft.

You can use the fun name coloring pages in many creative ways. Kids can add pom poms, glitter glue, stickers, or other simple materials.
