In the United States, we celebrate Thanksgiving Day on the fourth Thursday in November. It’s a day to gather with family and friends and eat way too much yummy food. Because turkey is a traditional food at the Thanksgiving dinner table, it’s always fun to have turkey themed Thanksgiving activities during the month of November.
This turkey name craft is a fun addition to your November lessons, and you are going to love how easy it is to customize the turkey feathers for your kids. The final product is cute for a Thanksgiving bulletin board or classroom door decor.
While I love craft activities and believe they have many benefits of crafts for kids, I REALLY LOVE when there is also an educational touch to a craft activity. This fun turkey craft is an excellent way to work on literacy skills like letter recognition and name recognition. Kids have fun putting the letters of their name (the turkey tail feathers) in the correct order to spell their names.

Supplies Needed for a Turkey Name Craft
The cute turkeys are really easy to put together. Here are the supplies that you need:
- Printable turkey name craft template
- Printing paper
- Scissors
- Glue sticks
- Construction paper for background (optional)
How to Customize the Turkey Name Craft for Your Kids
It’s super easy to customize the editable feathers for an entire class. The document includes a Class List Form. When you type the letters of each child’s name into the form, they are automatically added to the feathers.
Now, they are ready to print. You can print on brightly colored paper, or if you want kids to make the feathers different colors, print on white paper so they can use crayons, paint and paint brush, or markers to customize their design.
How to Assemble the Craft
After printing your turkey, it’s time to cut it out. You can cut some or all of the pieces in advance for your kids, or use this as an opportunity to build fine motor skills and let kids cut them out on their own.
Get out your glue stick. The next step is to glue the letter feathers to the turkey’s body. Help kids make sure that their feathers are in the correct order before gluing. You can paste the entire turkey onto a construction paper background.
Fun Ideas for Your Turkey Name Craft
Encourage your kids to get creative with their cute little turkey creations. Here are some ideas:
- For a fun touch, cover up the printed eyes with googly eyes.
- Supply glitter glue to add a glittery design on the turkey’s body.
- Glue sequins or beads to the turkey’s body or feathers.
Additional Ways to Use the Turkey Name Craft
You can use this turkey template to make a variety of activities for the Thanksgiving holiday season. Here are some fun ideas.
Turkey Puppets
Attach craft sticks to the bottom of the easy turkey crafts so kids can use them as puppets in a puppet theater.
Name Practice Activity – Turkey Name Puzzles
The printable turkeys are the perfect way to give your kids continuous name practice. Cut out the parts, but don’t paste the turkeys together. Instead, store the pieces for individual turkeys in plastic bags or envelopes. Kids can dump out the pieces of their turkey and put it together in the correct order to spell their own name. For an extra challenge, they can practice other students’ names too.
Thankful Turkey Craft
Print up the turkeys without letters on them. After a discussion about gratitude and thankfulness, help kids write things that they are thankful for on each feather.
Turkey Name Headband
Attach a completed turkey name craft to a sentence strip or a long strip of construction paper. Tape the strip together so that it fits around a child’s head.
Sight Word Practice Activity
Think outside the box and you can use these turkeys for creative activities for kids of all ages. While I designed this temple for a name turkey craft activity, it is also a great way to practice sight words or spelling words during the fall season.
