How to Customize the Editable Name Craft

It’s super easy to customize the printable Christmas light template with the letters in your kids’ names. The pdf file includes a class list form. Like all of my printable name craft activities, all you have to do is type the letters into the form, and the letters are automatically added to the light bulbs in the document.

You don’t need to worry about the number of letters in a child’s name. The form accommodates names with 12 letters, but you can print extras if needed.

I prefer to use a capital beginning letter and lowercase letters when I work on name practice with kids. However, you can customize the printable Christmas light bulbs with upper case letters if you prefer.

Two Printing Options for the Name Craft

This is not a one size fits all craft. You get some fun options.

Easy Prep Name Craft Coloring Sheet

For the first option, you must print a coloring page and a personalized set of lightbulbs on white paper for each of your kids.

Kids color the background and lights, and then cut out the lights. Finally, they can use a glue stick to paste the lights to the light string on the coloring page.

The thing that I LOVE about this option is that it includes a fun way to build fine motor skills. Look around the border of the coloring sheet. Do you see the little circles? Your kids can use a hole puncher to punch them out. If you haven’t tried hole punch activities yet, they are a very motivating way to help kids build hand strength.

Cut and Paste Christmas Name Craft

Kids can cut and paste their personalized light bulbs and a printable light strand to a construction paper background for the second option.

You can get really creative with this option by using different types of backgrounds.

Brightly colored lights look great on green, plain white, or black paper. You can also use a process art technique like straw painting or spray bottle painting, or apply paint with an evergreen branch to make a fun background. Isn’t it cute?

This is more than just a craft…..this Christmas lights name craft is an activity that will help your little learners with the following:

Name Recognition & Practice – Name activities are incredibly motivating for young kids because they LOVE THEMSELVES…am I right? Kids will learn to recognize their names. As they assemble their string of lights, they learn to put the letters of their name in the correct order. As they construct their own name, they will also work on letter recognition.

Build Fine Motor Skills – Here are some of the fine motor skills that they can work on while making their name crafts.

• Scissor Skills – Cutting out the light bulbs is a perfect way to build scissor skills during the month of December.
• Hole Punch Activities – The coloring page option doubles as a hole punch activity….which is a fun way to build hand strength.
• Develop Pencil Grasp – Coloring the pieces of this craft will help kids build strength and control in their little fingers, which will aid their pencil grip.
• Hand-eye Coordination – Simple cut-and-paste activities are a great way to support hand-eye coordination development.

• DIY Christmas Cards – Fold a piece of card stock or construction paper in half the long way and apply the light string to the front to make an adorable DIY Christmas card.
• Festive Necklace – Instead of pasting the letters to a background, the kids can tape them to a string to make a holiday name necklace.
• Gift Tags – Wrap a gift with plain paper and paste a personalize “string of Christmas lights” to the top of the gift as a fun gift tag.

You can make great hands-on learning activities without adding letters to the template. Print blank Christmas lights on color paper – choose a variety of different colors. Cut out the light shapes and put them together on a tray or in a container. Kids can sort the paper lights by color and attach them to light strings.

Instead of sorting the lights in the color sorting activity above, kids can use the lights to create different patterns on their light strands.
