The Best Christmas and Holiday Crafts for Preschoolers
Are you looking for some fresh craft ideas for the holiday season? You are sure to find something perfect for your kids here in this round-up of holiday crafts for preschoolers.
Christmas Tree Ornaments
When I was a kid, I loved making all kinds of crafts. Now, I enjoy doing fun, crafty projects with young children. Here are some easy Christmas crafts that you can hang on a Christmas tree.
Beaded Candy Canes
Stringing beads is a great way to work on eye-hand coordination.
Get out some pipe cleaners, red and white pony beads, and ribbon to make beaded candy canes. You can bend the pipe cleaner to make a classic hook or attach the ends to make a circle to create a cute candy cane wreath ornament.
Free Printable Ornament for Parents
This free printable Christmas ornament is a special gift that kids in your classroom can make for their parents. Kids can cut out the paper ornament and decorate the ornament. You can help them measure and attach a ribbon to it.
Pine Cone Ornaments
Here’s an easy peasy craft. Kids can wrap pine cones with yarn to make a simple natural pine cone ornament by Paper & Glue.
Beaded Snowflake Ornament
This beaded snowflake craft is a great fine motor skills activity and counting activity.
Hole Punch Snowflake
If you’re into snowflakes, here is another fun winter fine motor craft that is perfect for the holiday season. Kids can hole punch and color the snowflakes, and then add sequins, jewels, etc. to jaz them up. Add a ribbon on the top, and they are the perfect addition to a wintery Christmas tree.
Fuzzy Wreath Ornament
These cute little wreaths work well as an ornament or look adorable when attached to a gift. Believe it or not, they are super easy to make. I started by cutting off the rim of small paper cups.
Then, kids can easily wrap green pipe cleaners around the circle rim. To complete the craft, they can glue sequins to it and you can help them add a piece of ribbon for hanging.
Popsicle Stick Snowflakes
Use hot glue gun to assemble a snowflake from craft sticks. Kids can paint them and apply different elements to make a popsicle stick snowflake with their creative personal touch.
Even older kids will love making these winter crafts. We added pom poms, mini rubber bands, buttons, sequins, glitter glue, rhinestones, and even little seashells to our snowflakes.
It’s hard to tell from the photo, but the large snowflakes were made with jumbo craft sticks and would look great on the top of the tree.
Snowman Ornament
Made from a craft stick painted with white paint, these snowmen ornaments are so much fun to make. Check out this blog post for even more snowman craft ideas.
Salt Dough Ornaments
A handprint craft is always the perfect gift for the Christmas season. Here is a gorgeous salt dough handprint ornament by The Best Ideas for Kids.
Gingerbread Houses
Want a fun way to motivate your kids to build fine motor skills? Try these cute printable fine motor crafts. The gingerbread themed cut and paste crafts give kids a fun way to work on their scissor skills and they provide an opportunity to trace lines and use a hole punch.
You can also make gingerbread houses from a brown paper bag like this one from Glued to My Crafts Blog. Little kids will need a little help to fold or cut the top of the bag making a point. Provide dot stickers, holiday themed stickers, markers, and scraps of construction paper so that kids can design their own gingerbread house.
Christmas Lights
We created process art painting by applying green paint to construction paper with an evergreen branch. The simple art projects then served as the perfect background for a Christmas light name craft.
Christmas Tree Craft
These Christmas trees are lots of fun to make. I glued two long, and one short craft stick together to create a tall triangle. Kids can wrap the triangle with green pipe cleaners or green yarn. We glued some red beads to the tree and topped it with a bell. Isn’t it cute?
Symmetry Cutting Craft
This fold-and-cut activity is a fun way for kids to work on their scissor skills. It’s lots of fun to watch watch their faces when they unfold the paper to reveal the cut out images. After cutting out their gingerbread man, Christmas tree, or bell, kids can decorate them.
You can also attach the shapes to the front of a folded piece of paper to make a nice Christmas card.
Cut & Paste Holiday Crafts for Preschoolers
Like the gingerbread crafts above, these Christmas crafts were designed to also serve as motivating fine motor activities. Kids can work on cutting practice, hole punching, and line tracing as they create the stocking, Chirstmas tree, reindeer, and poinsettia.
Want to add a little dimension to the crafts? You can also provide cotton balls to glue on the top of the stocking, pom poms for ornaments or the reindeer’s red nose, and you can add googly eyes to the reindeer’s face.
For a fun twist, you can make a handprint reindeer craft. Kids can glue the head (without the antlers) of the reindeer to a construction paper background. Help them apply brown paint to their hands and they can add two handprints on the top of the head to serve as antlers.
Torn Paper Craft
If you are looking for an easy-to-prep Christmas craft for preschoolers, this is about as easy as it gets. Print off these simple, bold images and provide your kids with scraps of construction paper and glue sticks. Kids can tear the paper into small pieces (which happens to be a great way to build hand strength) and paste it to the image.
Holiday Paper Chains
Make paper chains with your kids to use a garland for a Christmas tree or go holiday decor.
Paper Snowflakes
It’s easy to make paper snowflakes with young kids when you use a snowflake cutting template. Be prepared….kids love making snowflakes so much that you might have them hanging ALL OVER your home or classroom.
Santa Crafts
I love this Santa craft made from a paper plate by Arty Crafty Kids. Isn’t his curly paper beard adorable?
Crafting has many benefits for young kids, so I hope you find a few holiday craft ideas to use with your little learners. Enjoy creating together!
