Why Should I Make Name Art Activities with My Kids?
A child’s name is one of the most important words to them and working on name activities is a perfect starting point for literacy learning. Engaging children in name art activities is a great way to boost name recognition, which is an important life skill aspect of early learning.
Some preschool teachers are completely opposed to making kids crafts. However, I firmly believe that crafts benefit a child’s development. As your kids work on these projects, they will repeatedly see and interact with the letters in their names, strengthening their letter recognition, learn name spelling and other early reading skills.
One of my favorite things is to add opportunities for fine motor practice to my learning activities. So, of course, these activities also promote fine motor skills as children manipulate various materials like crayons, paints, stickers, and hole punches.
The personalized name art activities are very motivating and contribute to a child’s sense of identity and self-worth. They’re perfect for teachers, parents, and occupational therapists.
You see… these printables are not only fun, but they are also educational coloring pages
I know you don’t have a lot of time, so I designed these name coloring pages to be super easy to edit so you can quickly print them off and help your kids create customized art projects that captivate and educate young kids.
Overview of the Name Coloring Page Products
The name art printables featured in this article are available in my store. I created 2 different sets: one that spells out the child’s entire name and another that highlights the first letter of their name. Here’s a closer look at what each set includes and how to use them.
Name Coloring Sheets
The first set features big bubble letters that spell out the child’s entire name. Six different full-page designs are available for printing.
These pages are perfect for name recognition and early literacy practice. You can use them to work on letter formation by showing a child how to finger-trace the letters on their own coloring page. Once ready to form letters with a crayon, they can trace and rainbow-write the letters in their names.
I love to find ways to give kids exciting ways to build their fine motor skills, so you’ll find one page that is specifically created for use with a hole punch, allowing kids to enjoy a hands-on activity that also strengthens their hands and fine motor skills. Another page is suited for use with dot stickers or bingo daubers, providing a bright and enjoyable way to work on hand-eye coordination.
First Letter of My Name Coloring Sheets
The second set focuses on the first letter of your kids’ names. It includes four fun full page designs, each featuring a large, bold bubble letter. These pages are excellent for helping children recognize and learn the first letter of their names. The large letters are really easy to use for a fun art project.
Again, one of the pages is designed for use with a hole punch, offering a motivating and effective way to develop hand strength. Another page is designed for use with dot stickers or bingo daubers, which will help your kids develop eye-hand coordination while creating a colorful and engaging activity.
Again, the name templates are super easy to customize. All you have to do is add a first name to the coloring page template and print them for your kids
How to Customize the Name Coloring Pages
Personalizing an editable name coloring page for each of your kids is incredibly easy and doesn’t require you to download any special fonts. Simply use Adobe Acrobat Reader on your laptop to edit the documents. This free program is all you need to customize each page, and detailed step-by-step instructions are included with your purchase.
With just a few clicks, you can create unique and exciting name art for every child. The full-name coloring pages include a Student List Form that helps you quickly customize coloring sheets for a group of 30 kids at a time. If you prefer to use capital letters versus lowercase letters…go for it. Detailed directions are included with each set.
Creative Ways to Use the Name Art Coloring Sheets
With a few simple materials, there are so many different ways you can use the name coloring pages. Whether you’re looking for simple activities or more elaborate projects, these printables can be adapted in so many ways to keep your little ones engaged and learning. I know you and your kids are going to have so much fun! Here are some creative ideas to get you started.
Coloring The Name Pages
Here is an easy way to use the pages. Coloring is a timeless activity that never fails to engage young learners. With the name coloring pages, children can use their favorite crayons, markers, or colored pencils to bring their names to life.
This activity not only fosters creativity but also helps children practice their fine motor skills and color recognition. Each child can choose their own colors, making each page uniquely theirs. In addition to their own names, your kids will enjoy an opportunity to color the names of their pets, family members, and friends.
Painting Name Activities
Painting our name coloring pages can be an exciting and colorful adventure. Here are some techniques to explore:
Watercolors: Traditional painting with watercolors provides a vibrant and fluid look. Kids can experiment with color blending and shading to make their names pop.
Bubble Painting: Bubble painting is a fun process art activity for kids. Use my bubble painting technique with a name coloring sheet instead of plain paper to turn the project into a combo art and name activity.
Straw Painting: You can also switch out plain paper for a name coloring sheet to create name artwork with straw painting.
Spray Bottle Painting: Fill spray bottles with diluted paint and let children spray their pages for a cool, splattered effect. It’s easy, lots of fun, and painting with spray bottles is a great fine motor activity. This fun fine motor painting activity is the perfect activity for making outdoor name art. You can also make squirt gun paintings as well.
Q-tip Painting: Perfect for developing fine motor skills, kids can use Q-tips to dot and dab paint onto their pages, allowing for detailed and precise artwork. The pages with small dots are perfect for this activity
Dot Stickers
Dot stickers are an excellent tool for enhancing fine motor skills. Kids can place these stickers along the letters, creating colorful and fun designs. This activity is not only enjoyable but also helps improve hand-eye coordination and precision.
Bingo Daubers or Dot Markers
Using bingo daubers, children can add vibrant dots to their name coloring pages. This activity is easy and mess-free, making it perfect for young learners. It encourages fine motor control, eye-hand coordination, and creativity as kids experiment with different colors and patterns.
Cut and Paste Name Craft
Encourage creativity with a cut-and-paste name activity. Get out the glue sticks and some strips of colorful construction paper. As kids complete the simple cut and paste activity, they can work on their scissor skills as they cut the strips of paper into small pieces and eye-hand coordination skills as they paste them down to fill in the shape of the letter.
Paper Tearing
Paper tearing activities are great for building hand strength. Get out some scraps of construction paper and glue sticks and your kids will have a blast creating torn paper art.
Hole Punches
Hole punch activities offer a fun and motivating way to build hand strength, and you can combine them with name practice. Some of the pages in both sets are designed to be used with hole punches and your kids will enjoy punching holes around the border of the pages.
How to Use The Name Coloring Page Printables

After creating artwork with these custom coloring pages, hang them around the room and use them to remind kids that they embody…or encourage them to strive to embody these words. You can also give them to someone to wish them a nice day.
- Sunday School Activities: Use words like Jesus, faith, joy, love, and peace to go along with your Sunday school lesson.

- Substitute Teacher: Prepare this activity for a substitute teacher or add it to your sub box.
- End of Year Activity: Let your kids show their artistic expression on the last day of school by creating name art activities.
